If you feel confident paddling
on placid water, but would like to embark on more
challenging journeys, including rapid rivers or
open water, this course is for you. We will cover strategies for
paddling open canoes on rapid and open water, and
alternative methods of canoe propulsion; lining,
tracking and poling. We will discuss various
methods of packing and stowing your expedition
equipment, and you will be given the opportunity to
be involved in trip planning and
navigation. For these
courses, you need to be able to control a canoe or
kayak on placid water and be comfortable in a
capsize situation. If you do not have prior
experience, one of
our
Introduction
to
Canoeing
courses
would be an ideal preparation for this course. The
course is available to doubles or solo canoe

arrangement This course is run on a
non-residential basis, leaving you free to book
into accommodation of your choice. A self-catering
camping option is avalable, based at the
award-winning Pencelli Castle Camp site, with
camping equipment
supplied. What's included
Instruction and Leadership. Hire of equipment: Canoe (15-16' with
solo kneeling thwart, or double, as
preferred); paddle; helmet; buoyancy aid;
wetsuit; cagoule; barrell or drybag for
day kit. You may bring your own (suitable)
