We offer introductory courses in a range of craft.

Training and testing for the new BCU/UKCC Star Tests and Paddlepower awards may be available by prior arrangement.

16 -20 August 2010

Brecon Beacons and Wye Valley

This course is run on a self-catering basis at the award-winning Pencelli Castle camp-site on the banks of the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal and within easy reach of river and lake locations.

Price £375 per person for 5 days.

This is an 'adult-only' course for over 15's.

This course is ideal preparation for 'Expedition and white-water skills for open canoe' or 'Touring and Exploring Scotland'

Introduction to Canoeing (solo or doubles)

South Wales

On this course you will learn the basics of open canoe paddling; along with some simple safety and rescue techniques to prepare you to progress your canoeing as part of a welf-sufficient group. You will experience a variety of paddling locations including the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal, River Wye and Llangorse Lake, surrounded by the varied scenery of the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains.

By the end of the course you should be able to paddle confidently on flat water, and will have tackled some easy moving water and open water. You will also be given the opportunity to paddle cruising canoes and decked whitewater canoes.

Canoeing taster day

(solo or doubles)

North Wales

This one-day 'taster course will give you the basics of open canoe paddling on sheltered, water, along with a guided half-day trip.

Venue: Snowdonia or Anglesey - 12 July 2010

Venue: Wye/Usk Valleys - by arr.

Price £65 per person.

 

This course is run on a half-board (bed, breakfast and packed lunch) basis at Ingledene B&B in Trearddur Bay on Anglesey.

Price £425 per person for 5 days.

12 - 16 July 2010

This is an 'adult-only' course for over 15's.

This course is ideal preparation for 'Expedition and white-water skills for open canoe' or 'Touring and Exploring Scotland'

Introduction to Canoeing (solo or doubles)

North Wales

On this course you will learn the basics of open canoe paddling; along with some simple safety and rescue techniques to prepare you to progress your canoeing as part of a welf-sufficient group. You will experience a variety of paddling locations including (subject to conditions) Llyn Padarn, Gwynant, Inland Sea, Menai Strait and one of Snowdonia's many rivers, surrounded by the varied scenery of Anglesey and Snowdonia.

By the end of the course you should be able to paddle confidently on flat water, and will have tackled some easy moving water and open water. You will also be given the opportunity to paddle cruising canoes and decked whitewater canoes.

General Course Info:

Kayaking is a richly varied pastime with far more to offer than we can fit into one week! However, we aim to introduce you to the vast range of kayaking experiences which are open to you once you have acquired the basic skills. On these courses you will learn the basics of kayak paddling; some simple safety and rescue techniques, including the capsize drill (closed-cockpit kayaks). You will be given the opportunity to paddle open-cockpit touring kayaks, whitewater kayaks and sea kayaks. By the end of the course you should be able to paddle confidently on flat water, and will have tackled some easy moving water (inland or sea). The course will include at least one self-sufficient full-day trip (conditions permitting).

These courses are ideal preparation for 'On to White-water or Introduction to Sea Kayaking as applicable to the course you choose. Either course will prepare you for Touring and Exploring Scotland by kayak.
